Vitiligo

Vitiligo is an autoimmune condition in which a patient has white patches of skin caused by a loss of pigmenting cells (also known as melanocytes). This depigmenting condition may occur on both sides of the body, one side of the body or a specific part of the body. In some cases, it may even affect areas inside the mouth or the nose. Likely a genetic condition, vitiligo is the world’s most common depigmenting disorder, affecting approximately 0.5 percent of the population. Its symptoms may be worsened by sun exposure.

When you are interested in treating vitiligo, there are several options available. To discuss treatment, contact our Dallas-based dermatology office today!
